Pantone just released their 2014 Color of the Year – Radiant Orchid last week. Pantone’s press release described the color as a magical purple. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®.
For those of us in the interiors industry, this is a welcoming addition of eye-catching hues that will be a nice accent to many spaces (not just the woman’s restroom). As noted in Pantone’s press release regarding use of Radiant Orchid in interior spaces, “the vibrant color is sure to liven up neutrals including gray, beige and taupe. Uplifting and bold without being overpowering, Radiant Orchid reenergizes almost any color palette and provides a unifying element for the diverse spaces.” The new Color of the Year is shown above with a commercial textile (Knoll – Utrillo in Skylight) where it accents nicely against the turquoise blues and yellow stripes.
Some examples of this hue used in commercial settings: 1. Cumberland Clover Lounge 2. JSI Finn Lounge Chair 3. Textured Wall Application
4. Apple Laptop Cover 5. Buzzi Ottomans 6. Sparkeology Cupcake Stools
